Those Were the Days My Friends

With Oscar Soon to Arrive/ A Movie Memory
I'm going to show my age here just in revealing my closet love for old action movies. A few of these golden oldies I caught this past week-end on cable while channel surfing.Much to my delight and surprise Encore Action Channel had a Paul Newman double feature festival going on. Encore was showing one of Mr Paul Newman's "Big Action Block-Busters," of the 1970's The Towering Inferno.
As any old action flick addict can tell you The Towering Inferno is right up there with the Poseidon Adventure for a funky at times funny kind of thrills and spills.movie. Most people of my generation have seen it whether they wanted to or not when they were kids. I'd compare it to James Cameron's Titanic for anyone who hasn't ever had the dubious pleasure of sitting through all 165 minutes of Mr Irwin Allen's movie. For you a little break down Inferno was done a lot cheaper, with more well known stars for that time and a high-rise instead of a famous ship. The first 45 minutes leave the foul taste of a soap opera in the watcher's mouth but as it progresses it does begin to deliver.and how can you beat Paul Newman's blue eyes blazing while he trouble shoots a rescue while, Steve McQueen and a young Faye Dunaway co-star?
The Towering Inferno was like our Summer movie Blockbuster is to the younger kids nowadays. The Transformers X that Spielberg may make someday down the road.should he ever feel the need. It drew big box-office for the time and people did really enjoy it.I remember loving it as a kid and being on the edge of my seat at the end. Even this second time around it was fun to watch but.I did have to pause it twice to have bathroom breaks and make myself some popcorn. Now it was low fat butter and no salt this time for me gone for good the good old days. Well, maybe.

I remember that! On Saturday my father and I used to watch western shows with John Wayne. Not the other John Wayne. Heavy sigh... back in the good old days. Voted up!
That is wonderful! Hope you like it :)

I enjoyed your review on "The Towering Inferno." I look forward to your next installment of '70's action flicks. Interesting imagery as well. Nice Hub.
